OPTIFAST Weight Loss Success Story - Jaclyn

Weight Lost: 86 lbs*

*The success stories depicted in this section are representative of these individuals only and do not represent all OPTIFAST patients. The typical OPTIFAST patient loses over 50 pounds in 18-24 weeks. For many dieters, weight loss is only temporary.

This isn’t a story about what I’ve lost; it’s a story about what I’ve gained.

I’d gotten to the point where I couldn’t cross my legs, fit comfortably into an airplane seat or bend to pick something up if I dropped it. An untied sneaker was a real problem. I lost my breath walking up a ramp and stairs were out of the question.

I was on increasing dosages of medication for high blood pressure and high cholesterol and my internist finally said the scariest words…I was pre-diabetic. I weighed 243 pounds at 5’5”. I knew if I didn’t lose weight and keep it off, illnesses wouldn’t have to look hard to find me. On top of all of that, I’m a “sugaraholic”. I made most meals without protein and existed on sugar and junk food.

I compared a few weight loss plans and decided the OPTIFAST program was the one. Little did I know I would find life-changing support and insight into my eating habits that would result in real change.

Dr. Saraf and his team at greeted me with warmth and acceptance. Weekly, Dr. Saraf listened and tailored our discussions to my specific habits. At each visit, she would look at my results and exclaim that I was “awesome” or “exceptional”. I found myself excited to go to our meetings. When I told her my history with weight loss, Dr. Saraf assured me that this would be the time when I ended that cycle. When I expressed my fears, she calmed them with facts and support. We would do this together, she said.

The program and the meal replacements were easy for me. Why? By finally getting enough protein daily, I wasn’t hungry at all. I was amazed by that. How could I not be hungry?? Dr. Saraf suggested the shakes and bars because of my desire for sweets, but was quick to teach me about protein and food as nourishment, not as reward or reaction to stress. We worked through my stress eating and addressed the triggers. Now, I have new healthy habits and a rule about not eating standing up!

I’m now halving the lowest available dosage of the meds I’m on; my internist believes we will be eliminating them altogether. I’m no longer pre-diabetic and I’m told I look 10 years younger; I certainly feel it! I have astounding energy!

I weigh 157 pounds and have dropped 6 dress sizes. I bound up stairs by choice, love working out regularly (the true stress reducer!) and when people drop a paper or pen, I say, “let me get that for you,” because I can! So this is a story of what I’ve gained. I have energy, great health and fitness, a crazy amount of self-confidence and self-esteem and a size 10 wardrobe! At almost 60 years old, I feel like a teen!

Thanks so much Dr. Saraf and the team at Hartsdale Medical Spa. We did this together!
