Weight Lost: 63 lbs*
*The success stories depicted in this section are representative of these individuals only and do not represent all OPTIFAST patients. The typical OPTIFAST patient loses over 50 pounds in 18-24 weeks. For many dieters, weight loss is only temporary.
I was a serial dieter…
Yo-yo was my middle name. I can honestly say that I have tried every diet out there, with very limited success. As I approached my 56th birthday, I came to the realization that there was no better time than now to make drastic changes in my life. My family history included obesity, diabetes and heart disease. I made up my mind that I would not become another victim of my genes.
I have always led a very active lifestyle, with exercise being a daily objective. But as with most of us, the objective sometimes got lost in the business of everyday life. Despite my activity level, my real problems came from the frustrating fact that I could not control the other side of the equation: the eating side.
No matter how hard I worked at the exercise, I always seemed to sabotage my diet by thinking I could eat whatever I wanted as long as I was active. I came to Scottsdale Weight Loss Center (SWLC) with the hope that I could regain control of my life. The program turned out to be easy for me and in over 14 weeks I dropped 45 pounds or 63 pounds from my highest weight of 198. As I dropped, the weight I continued with my exercise regimen and the results were amazing.
The OPTIFAST program helped me to understand how much nutrition my body actually needed...not how much I wanted. It trained me to eat more often and at regular intervals. I now understand how I used to sabotage myself and that I needed to have a plan to deal with stressful situations instead of using food as my outlet.
After I successfully lost the weight, my daughter-in-law, who is a veteran runner, challenged me to train with her to run a race. I welcomed the opportunity to spend time with her. Little did I know what I had gotten myself into! I have never been one to be shy when someone gave me a challenge, so I began to train, thinking that I could always back out if it got too tough. The training schedule had me running several short runs during the week (3-8 miles) and doing a long run (13-18 miles) on the weekends.
To my great surprise, when race day came, I found myself ready to go. While it wasn’t the prettiest or fastest run, I accomplished my goal of finishing the race! I finished my first full marathon at age 56 and I can honestly say that there might be a few more in my future. Without the help of SWLC, I would have never been able to accomplish this incredible thing. I have now checked this one off my bucket list!
Thank you, Dr. Z and your incredible staff for all the encouragement and support!
